I saw his face turn to me, eyes wide and mouth set in a tight, worried frown. Sand filling his hat brim, his eyes were screaming the words he could not. I mimicked his face, hands gripping the window beside me.
"Jedediah..." I murmured his name, heart ripping. He was putting up a brave facade no matter how scared he was. I glared at Kahkmenrah, cursing him to Pluto and beyond. Jedediah needed my help, and that was my sole mission. If I failed I wished Oedipian hell upon myself. But I would not fail Jedediah. I am Roman.

Oedipian, which is a word I cannot spell, hell refers to Oedipus Rex and the fact that he clawed out his own eyes once he realized he'd married his mother, killed his father and put a curse upon the land. Not exactly sure if Oedipus was before or after Rome but Octavius could have heard the story elsewhere, so there. Lol.
